This book is not exception. It is great if you already know what you want to do and you are looking for a quick way to adapt it to Dreameaver. However, if you are looking for a real understanding of how Dreamweaver works and you hope someday you won't need someone to hold your hand, you might want to look somewhere else.
I took over a beginning Dreamweaver class this semester 2 weeks before the class began. I wasn't happy with the book that was chosen. While I didn't assign this additional text to the students, I mentioned it and one student did purchase it.
She also felt it was better than the assigned text. I was able to use this for additional material and tips that I could add into my lectures and it even included a few tricks I didn't know. I really like this author!! I purchased the Dreamweaver CS6 software this summer I am used to having a "users manual" included, especially for the price of this software.
I am still angry with Adobe for not including something to read :. I am new to Dreamweaver and I am still reading this book for reference 1, pages , but so far it has helped me tremendously! I like this book! There is so much information to learn, but in a good way. The title is correct, you would be truly "lost" with all of Dreamweaver's functionality by just buying the software alone!
With this book, I see why Dreamweaver is the choice of professional web designers everywhere! I like the style and the way David explains concepts in a easy, conversational manner. Regardless,I feel this is an excellent resource for new users and you will return back to this book often. I am speaking as a novice. This will be my 3rd "Missing Manual" purchase from this author I'm a web designer and I felt that this book covered some areas of DW that I was not very familiar with and it sped up my work a significant amount.
I also love that it was CS6 specific because they did the whole book in HTML5 they state that in the beginning but you don't have to do that, it's the examples.
Very thorough and easy to follow. I have not used Dreamweaver since CS3 and then only sparingly. I recently took on updating a website I made with Dreamweaver way back in and many many changes and improvements have made their way into Dreamweaver since then. I am winding my way through the book now but it is a great help even if you have prior knowledge of the program.
Any thousand page manual has to cover more than a shorter manual, given equally effective writing styles. I've been trying to start from scratch and write my own website code after have Adobe Muse blow up in my face because of images. I finally gave up on a piecemeal approach and decided to attack the coding problem by reading the whole manual and downloading their examples. I subscribed to the Dreamweaver monthly program as a student.
Dreamweaver is loaded with tools that are still over my head, but between the software and the manual I feel confident that I will eventually succeed and arrive at my destination with a better understanding of how I got there. Not an expert yet but making good progress with the help of the Missing Manual.
The examples and walk-throughs are useful if you are new to Dreamweaver. I found doing the walk-throughs first and then reading the associated chapter better than just going through it in the order presented. Report abuse. This is for me a must have book. I find searching FAQs and On-line manuals complex and much prefer being able to flip through a manual such as this where everything is laid out in a logocal sequesnce and cross-references.
Came from Dreamweaver4 with websites made from tables. It was a big jump to Dreamweaver CS6 and style sheets I tried video tutorials,a good start and another book which was good, but The Missing Manual answered all my many questions and introduced me to so many new ideas.
